is one of nine provinces in austria. its capital is innsbruck with about 120 000 inhabitants. it is best known for its mountainous landscape that makes it one of the best places for winter sport in europe. well known spots for that are kitzbühl and ischgl. tyroleans are very proud of andreas hofer, who fought against napoleon's occupation in the early 19th century and was eventually executed.
i'm going to the tyrol this winter. apparently the skiing is excellent there.
